Being a Parent is the most beautiful and precious thing in the world then any other treasures available out there. And I cherish every second of it. But like the saying goes, ‘Great Power Comes With Great Responsibility!’ Similarly being a parent is not easy. I am also not saying that it is Mission Impossible! But a parent has to always know how to deal with the child. More then just following a few guidelines. There is no course or a diploma on how to be a Perfect Parent. It is also not a rocket science which a parent has to master. But, a parent has to definitely try to understand the child. As each child is different from one another. Me being a parent of a 7 year old and since am also a teacher. I have understood one thing that a child is like a ‘flower’, sensitive & fragile. If a parent doesn’t take utmost care in understanding the child, they can hurt the child’s feelings really bad. It can crush and leave an everlasting impact on the child’s brain. Which in the long run can be harmful and dangerous at the same time. So, if precaution is not taken at the right time. It can adverse the effect in a very bad way.
I would like to put a few but most important tips to be a Perfect Parent:
I totally believe that if you have the ability of being patient with a child. You have the ability to conquer anything you want in life. Patience is a virtue. It is of key importance when dealing with a child.
The sense of being a responsible parent is very important. Knowing your child and it’s whereabouts is a must. Checking on what, where and how they do everything should be known to a parent. It should not be over done also where a child feels you are intruding too much in their life. Doing it in a right way at the right time any child can feel safe but when done in a forced way a child can feel stressed and unhappy.
3. Love and Affection
I feel having love and affection in any relationship can be wonderful. It blossoms the relation in a very beautiful way. Especially with children a parent has to show the child how much they love them. The easiest way to show a child love is the touch therapy. A hug speaks a million words. So, show your child that you love and care for them.
4. Giving Time
A parent has to always give some time to their child during the day. No matter how busy or tight schedule you have. 10 mins in a day given to the child can actually make them feel that you care for them. A bed time story can be the best way to spend some quality time with your little one.
5. Talking softly
Like I mentioned before, A child is like a ‘flower’, sensitive and fragile. And being a parent you have to take care that you talk to them in a very soft and gentle way. The tone of the voice has to be always moderate. Even when the child has done something wrong, if told to them in a gentle way it can do wonders. As the child will understand and will try not to repeat the mistake. And if it is told to them in a harsh way. They can get scared and chances are they will never tell when the mistake is done again.
A child has to be appreciated at all times. Let them know that they are doing a good job too. Saying things like, ‘You have done a good job!’ can really boost their confidence. So, just say it. It doesn’t cost you anything but instead it will pay you with lot of rewards in return.
7. Encourage them in their likes
Every parent has a dream for their child. They want their child to be an engineer, a doctor etc which is a great dream. But what if a child has it’s own dream. Don’t push a child to do something which a child is not interested in. Instead let the child do what he/she wants to do. A parent has to always encourage the child in their liking’s so the child can succeed and fly high.
8. Involving them in whatever you do
Children love to help Parents. So, let them help you. Give them the opportunity to do the small chores at home. You can involve them in watering the plants while you do the gardening stuff, let them mix the salad while you chop the veggies and put them in the bowl etc. So, next time you need a helping hand, the help is right in your home standing right next to you.9. Understanding
A parent has to definitely put a thinking cap when it comes to understanding the child. Every child has it’s own individuality. Hence, a child has got his/her own liking and disliking. And a parent cannot impose their liking on the child. Understand the child and accordingly to the child’s liking enroll the child in the particular field which they want. Regardless, whether it is extra curricular activities or academics.
10. Be like a child
Trust me, this may sound silly but it can be really a fun time to spend with your child. It fills life with lots of love, fun and laughter. It can not only be fun but it actually relaxes you and keeps your stress away. The child too feels happy and believes that a parent is not only a parent but can also be a friend. Remember there is no one to judge you but your child will be the most happiest with you at that time. And that is what really matters.
Yes, I know after reading the above list. Some of you may feel what’s so special about all the pointers. I knew this already. And some of you may feel oh gosh! That’s quite a list. So, my question to them who already knew this would be, how many of you actually follow them. Knowing them might be easy but following them is the most important one. And to those who felt it’s quite a list. Well, my answer to them is, It’s not! So to all I would just say, take these pointers as a reality check. And do them. Start with a few if not all. It will not only make your life fun but it will make a huge difference in your child’s life too. Child will be beaming with lot of positiveness & happiness and that moment will be priceless. It makes a parent feel proud and feels a true sense of being a Perfect Parent!
