If you are a Bollywood buff (who isn’t?) chances are your favourite event at a wedding is the Sangeet. With drinking, dancing and lots of Ladkewale vs. Ladkiwale games, it truly is one hell of a party. Apart from the umpteen dance rehearsals, the one major decision a bride has to make is choosing her sangeet outfit. Here are some things to keep in mind before selecting one :
In this digital age, almost everything starts with a Google search. And weddings are no different. The first thing any bride to do is go online and look for designs, trends, styling etc. You can check out the profiles of bridal wear designers on WedMeGood or Instagram handles of your favourite designer, celebrity handles, wedding portals etc to find what you like. Ex: Follow Wedmegood on Instagram for such trends.
Factors like the kind of event, theme, weather, budget
Before actually going out shopping, there are certain things a bride need to have clarity on. Foremost of which is your budget. Apart from this the theme, indoor/outdoor setting, scale of event etc also have some part to play in your final decision. For example, velvet is a good bet for the winters and pastel shades work really well for a day/sundowner event.
Experiment with colours
While there a ton of colour choices for brides out there, many still want to wear the bridal red for their nuptials. This means that you can experiment with newer hues on your sangeet (since you’re going traditional for the main ceremony). Lilac, lavender, seafoam green, grey and even emerald green can be considered.
Accessories + Footwear
Now all that remains is to style your chosen outfit with bridal jewellery. Being a bride you can go for contrasting colours or deeper colours in the same family. For example, for a blush coloured outfit – the contrast route could be a diamond set with emeralds and the same colour family option could be a kundan set with maroon beads. As far as footwear goes, you can pick from the most comfortable option i.e. jutis, the most glam option i.e. stilettos or something that gives you the best of both worlds i.e. platform wedges. Also, go for light makeup for your Sangeet. You can ask your makeup artist to give you a different look for your Sangeet than your wedding day. And, if you haven’t booked your makeup artist yet, find a professional makeup artist for your wedding & Sangeet here.
Experiment with silhouettes
If you like fusion wear that’s modern and stylish, go for outfits that are ethnic but are also influenced by western aesthetics. Cape sleeves, boat neck blouses that are almost like crop tops, pre- draped dupattas that are attached to the blouse and lehengas with jackets are growing in popularity.
Since you’ll be on your feet attending to guests and dancing the night away, make sure the outfit you choose is fuss-free. You can opt for a lightweight fabric with can-can rather than a heavier fabric with lots of slits.
